Festival hair. According to Google images, the trendiest hairstyles for festival flair include glitter partings, space buns and a boho braid or two. However, if you attend Afropunk you will find that the trendiest hairstyles are not those typically found in a festival lookbook.

But Afropunk isn’t just a festival. Afropunk is a movement, one that celebrates and rejoices in black culture so it is no surprise to see women proudly rocking an array of different styles in their hair, fragrant with accessories.

Historically and culturally, hair maintenance and styling has played a huge part in African women’s life and to this day, black women are known for their frequent change in hairstyle. To witness black women embracing their hair in a multitude of styles, going against the mainstream ideologies, is beautiful.
